So, a local television station is running a contest in conjunction with Kijiji asking people to submit their stories about how Kijiji help give them a fresh start. Considering that Kijiji plays a large role in how I built my business I decided to enter.
Here is my submission:
After having a wonderful dinner with some friends on a Sunday evening in June 2010, I received the call that no one wants to get. The “We have to lay you off because the company is not doing well” call. I was crushed. I had only moved to Toronto the year before to be with my girlfriend and this job was what enabled me to do that. Now I was faced with the fact that I was out of a job with no notice and my plans for saving for an engagement ring were out the window.
With the reality of having to hold off on our engagement for the foreseeable future I was faced with a highly competitive job market that did not look promising because of the poor state of the economy.
Rather than apply for job after job, I decided to turn to Kijiji, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions in my life. I decided to start freelancing as a writer and one by one, by posting and replying to ads I began to build a client base that has now expanded into a successful business. With Kijiji as my primary means of doing business, it enabled me to get back on my feet and I am now back on track and happily engaged. Kijiji gave me a fresh start personally and professionally and I swear by it as an effective business tool that I use to this day!
